On Parades and Rain

All day today I’ve been focusing on my precious 5×5 rule. Need a reminder? Good! Here you go:

5x5

Yesterday I spent some glorious time daydreaming about my life 5 years from now and how wonderfully stress free and awesome it will be.

Today, I seemed to have forgotten about all that hard work I did daydreaming {it was fun hard work, but still, my brain was working hard!}. And you know why? Because people like to rain on my parade. Silly people.

Even sillier? That I LET people rain on my parade.

That got me thinking, I bet there are some pretty amazing people that have some insight on how to live a life that doesn’t have rained out parades on a frequent basis.

Low and behold, Pinterest came through for me. {Who else loves Pinterest, show of hands? Thought so}

You wouldn't worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.

Your life isn't yours if you constantly care what others think.

After I spent a good 30 minutes zoning out to Pinterest and eating cinnamon twists from Taco Bell {because that’s my idea of a super relaxing night…..for reals……} I decided to check back in with my word for the year.

Rest.

The month of April I am going to focus on the following quote {and by focus I mean print it out and put it on my mirror, my fridge and in my car…let’s see if I can ignore it!}

If you get tired, learn to rest...

This quote means tons to me this month. April is typically a pretty tiring month. Not as tiring as May, May is a killer. But April? I give April 2nd place in the tiring category. And when you also deal with parades getting rained on, it’s easy to want to quit sometimes. But you need to learn to REST not quit.

Because the world needs more of what you’ve got. I personally need more of what you’ve got. All the people around you need more of what you’ve got. Your dog? He definitely needs more of what you got.

{And if you don’t have a dog? Get one. You’re welcome}

So this month of April, I will commit to resting and not quitting. And by “commit” I mean I will do the following:

  • I will spend at least 30 minutes a day reading something that uplifts me
  • I will take a nap at least 4 days a week {you’re so jealous about this one, but don’t be! We can be nap twins! Oh what’s that? You don’t have time to take a nap? Don’t get me started…}
  • When a challenge arises {which they do…daily} I commit to calling one of my mentors to talk it out {you know who you are. And you’re awesome}
  • I will not check my work email until 8:30am or after 5pm each day.
  • I will also not check my work email on Saturday or Sunday
  • I will write down 3 things I am grateful for every day
  • I will pray daily

I just sat here for another 10 minutes trying to add to this list. And then I gave myself permission to not worry about it and move on. See, I’m ALREADY winning!

It’s bedtime for my littles. I guess that means I should stop writing. Until next time…..

Keep on parading down the street, watch out for rain, but if it does rain, remember:

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass

{oh and my personal favorite parade style? New Orleans Street Parade. Yeah baby!}
